    3. Enter the type of transfer you’re making - If you’re paying in from a personal bank account, it’s a Personal transfer.

    4. Enter your address details (this is to comply with finance regulations)

    5. Enter the details of who you’re sending money to.

  • Wise (recently renamed from TransferWise) is essentially an online account where you can send money between countries, get paid in other currencies, and spend abroad on their Wise debit card.

  • While using Wise is definitely one of the quicker ways to send money, exact transfer time can vary and ultimately depends on 4 things:

The countries you’re sending from and to

Every currency and country is different. Converting money can take a maximum of 2 working days, but rarely takes that long. And how quickly your transfer arrives depends on how fast your recipient’s bank can process the money, as well as the ways you can pay in the country you’re sending from.

    Your payment method

Some payment methods are quicker than others. For instance, card payments are normally instant, while bank transfers can take longer. You’ll see how long each payment method takes when you set up your transfer.

The time of day you make your transfer

Wise only move money during normal banking hours. Transfers also take a little longer if the country you’re sending to has a national holiday (of which Portugal has a lot!)

    And finally, security checks

Wise sometimes need to verify things like your ID or address when you make a transfer, to maximise the security and safety of your money. These additional checks can add a little time to your transfer.

  • Using Wise is often up to 3x cheaper than sending money through your bank, but the exact cost of a transfer varies and depends on three things — the amount you’re sending, how you pay, and the exchange rate.

  • Wise can transfer up to 50 currencies into Euros when you are sending money to Portugal, so chances are high that your home currency is supported.
